I, too, am ambivalent about presents. Sometimes people get it right but most presents are really just "uh . . . we know we have to give you something 'cause it's the holidays so here ya go." In my dream world, people skip the holiday gifting frenzy entirely, instead earmarking the money for gifts of psychic inspiration. What could be better than a gift of something you really need, on the eve of the day you need it? Work-out pants on the day you develop an embarrassing rip! A new tire on the day before you get a flat! A haircut and pedicure on the day before you meet your future employer in the check-out line at the grocery store!
