BlogHer ’12: I learned some things today

After day 1 of the BlogHer conference in New York City, I walked away with some learnings. Like:

This is what happens when you give hipsters Duct tape.

Home Depot sells prom clothes.

Some people have craft spaces that look like this.

My craft space looks like this.

Also, there are a lot of really awesome bloggers that I’m looking forward to reading more of, once I wade through the back-breaking number of business cards I collected.

  1. I learned that I shouldn’t eat so many damn samples, because I will end up with gas the whole freakin’ time! Oh, wait–that’s TMI…. Okay, what I also learned is that consistency on your blog is a key to branding yourself. And that is what I am going to aim for–down to the fonts I use. WHEW…Now if only I can find time to do all this while working full-time and managing 3 kids in a hubby. Yeah. LOL

I think there were a lot of people with gas there. We all pretended not to notice.

I learned a lot of great tips that I’ll be implementing over the next few weeks and months. How I’m supposed to make any money doing this is still a mystery.

Oh, there are ways– Google AdSense, for one. And other affiliate marketing. I’m still just learning, myself. I’ve only made about (last I checked) $56 since I became serious over the last 7 months. How disappointing. But I’d you get lots of traffic, you’re more likely to earn more $ as companies want to buy ad space and stuff. I just need to increase my traffic! Some people are getting like 80,000 page views per month. I’m around 3500-4000, on average. I need more!

I got booted off of Google AdSense for “sexually explicit” content. I think for a post I wrote about kiddie porn being bad. The name Dirty Hooker is sort of a double-edged sword for this blog. I will be blogging about my breakup with Google tomorrow.
