Crafts: Love and frogs, frogs and love
Thursday, February 11th, 2010Crafts: Bath salts
Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010I made these bath salts as Christmas gifts. Add a few drops of red dye to a cup full of salt, then strawberry scent until you’re satisfied. This reminds me of the Strawberry Shortcake dolls from my misspent youth. They redesigned them, and now they’re all lame. Leave my childhood toys alone, faceless minions of corporate America!
Craft: Bowlful of WTF?
Friday, November 20th, 2009Craft: Dirty Hookers wear clean clothes
Friday, November 13th, 2009Making this laundry detergent reminded me of running my hands through beach sand, without the danger of getting it stuck in my underwear. Use a wooden or plastic spoon if you don’t want to get your hands dusty.
For an ordinary load of laundry, use 1/8 cup per load. You can use any plain, nonscented soap. Most online recipes recommend Fels-Naptha. I couldn’t find it in my grocery store, so I used Octagon All Purpose Bar Soap
, and it worked out well.
Laundry Detergent
1 part plain, unscented soap
2 parts Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda
2 parts Borax
essential oils or fragrance oils, optional
Grate the soap using a handheld or electric grater. Combine all ingredients and store in a plastic container with a lid.
Craft: Bowl-ing for flowers
Friday, November 6th, 2009With this bowl, I was in the mood for something cartoony and fun.
With black acrylic paint, draw the outline of the flowers, and use green for the vines. Let the paint dry for a few hours or overnight. Paint the inside of the flowers whatever colors you like. Let dry for a few hours or overnight. Paint inner circles yellow. Let the whole thing cure for a week before using.
Handwash only.
